Hard To Watch - June 28, 2017
San Fransisco, CA
Hard to Watch is an evening length dance performance of private encounter. What are we willing to see? How are we willing to be seen? Through the use of Authentic Movement and spoken word this performance creates a game of hide and seek with shadow and beauty, with shame and essence. This work takes the threshold between the intimate and the private as a starting point, and then moves to cultivate a space of seeing that can hold an encounter with both the self and other.
We are reimagining the art form of opera to encompass one of the primary social musical languages of today - rap. Master beatboxer/Rap Artist Carlos Aguirre will work with youth to help tell their stories through a new hybrid art form. The project will draw on socioeconomic issues affecting youth to create a narrative of their experiences living in San Jose. The project will culminate in a workshop presentation of scenes from the work and include noted artists Cellista and soprano Alexandra Sessler.
Come explore the relationship between sound and vision with us at this month's Klanghaus event. Curated in collaboration with Victoria Perenyi, this will be an evening of film screenings and live music. We’ve selected several pieces by local video artists and assigned them to composers, who in response will create an original score to be performed live in conjunction with the selected film's screening.
